Can I really learn Spanish as an adult?
Of course you can! Adults are fully capable of learning Spanish at a high level. In fact, with consistent effort and at least average learning ability, most learners in our program reach a high level of proficiency in 240 to 280 focused hours. This means they can fully function in the Spanish language in almost all personal or professional environments.
The key is recognizing that adults don’t learn like children. Unlike kids, adults have an established language infrastructure that, when leveraged properly, becomes a major advantage. Immersion-only methods tend to fall short for adults because they ignore that foundation rather than build upon it.
Age isn’t a barrier unless there is cognitive decline. Over the years, we’ve had successful students in their 70s and even 80s. If you stay mentally active and consistent, you can absolutely succeed.
In fact, learning Spanish as an adult is excellent for brain health. A 2013 study published in Neurology found that bilingual adults experienced delayed onset of dementia symptoms by an average of 4.5 years compared to monolinguals, even when adjusting for education and income. Language learning strengthens memory, attention, and executive function. It offers far more cognitive benefit than doom scrolling or puzzles like Sudoku.

Can I try the method before I commit?
Absolutely. We believe you deserve the chance to experience the quality of our program before making a decision. That’s why we offer a full lesson entirely free. It’s not a teaser or a watered-down version. It’s the same lesson paying clients receive. This gives you an honest and transparent look at how the system works, how it feels to learn with us, and what kind of results you can expect. We don’t just allow you to try it, we encourage it.
Why should I trust this program?
We understand that choosing a Spanish program can feel overwhelming. With so many apps and platforms available today, especially those driven by AI, it can be hard to know what actually works and what is just chasing the latest trend.
We are not new to this space. We’ve been helping people master Spanish since 1992, long before language learning became a tech-driven industry.
Spanish Power is built on the proven González Method, developed through decades of hands-on teaching at the national level. Our founder, Ricardo González, has published four books, including The 12 Hidden Truths to Learning Spanish, and has helped thousands of learners achieve real fluency—not just memorize phrases.
We believe language learning is personal, not transactional. Every student is paired with a dedicated Success Coach and follows a structured progression from Basic to Expert, with a focus on long-term retention and real-world communication.
That’s why we offer a complete free lesson identical to what a paying client would receive. We believe people deserve an honest opportunity to experience the system before making a commitment. We don’t just allow it. We encourage it.
What is The González Method?
What is The González Method?
The González Method was designed to help serious learners achieve advanced to near-native fluency through proven memory-building processes that ensure long-term retention. Developed by our founder and CEO, Ricardo González, the method emerged from three years of intensive teaching and oversight of hundreds of one-on-one Spanish learners between 1992 and 1995.
By closely observing what worked and what didn’t, Ricardo created a six-stage learning system built for deep retention and real-world fluency. It empowers students to confidently speak, read, write, and understand Spanish at an advanced level. This is not a program for casual learners, shortcut seekers, or those looking for entertainment. It is built for serious adults and motivated teens who want real, lasting results.
For over 30 years, the method has consistently delivered results and continues to evolve to meet the needs of today’s technology-conscious learners.
To fully understand the method, watch Ricardo’s in-depth video where he walks through the full approach. You can also explore his thinking in How to Really Learn Spanish in the AI Age, an updated edition of his two now out-of-print books: How to Really Learn Spanish and The 12 Hidden Truths to Learning Spanish.
What level of proficiency can I reach and in how much time?
Most students who complete the full Spanish Power program through the Expert level reach a level of fluency equivalent to 80 to 85 percent of an educated native speaker.
On the ACTFL scale (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, a widely accepted and standardized framework for measuring language proficiency), our graduates typically score in the Advanced Mid to Advanced High range, with some reaching Superior. You’ll be able to read, write, speak, and understand Spanish with confidence in real-world settings.
Our approach focuses on structured progression and long-term retention, implementing the González Method—not short-term memorization of scripted phrases or conversations. How fast you progress depends on your level of commitment, the tier of support you choose, and how consistently you follow the program. Students who stay on track typically complete the full system in 12 to 18 months.

How long does each lesson take?
Each lesson in the course is divided into six structured stages, and each stage contains a series of micro-steps that take anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes on average. The course is designed for on-the-go learning in short, focused bursts. Retention tends to be much higher when people avoid long sit-down “study” sessions. After all, the adult attention span in today´s highly distracted age is very short indeed.
On average, a full lesson takes about 2.5 to 3 hours to complete, depending on your pace and learning style. In addition, we recommend spending approximately one hour per lesson in tutoring, whether virtual or live, or a combination of both. This brings the total recommended time per lesson to about 3.5 to 4 hours.
If you complete one lesson per week, you will finish the entire program through the Expert Level in about one year. Two lessons per week will take about six months. One lesson every two weeks will take around two years to complete the full course.
How are you different from other Spanish learning apps?
Most Spanish learning apps focus on short-term engagement through gamified activities or vocabulary drills. Spanish Power is built for real results. Our program is based on the proven González Method, which guides learners from Basic to Expert through a structured, culturally intelligent, and results-driven system.
What truly sets us apart is the human support included in every tier. You’ll be assigned a dedicated Success Coach to monitor your progress and keep you on track. Depending on your plan, you can also work with professional Spanish tutors through private coaching sessions. The program also includes intelligent virtual tutors, a practice partner interface, and interactive assessments that reinforce long-term retention.
Spanish Power is not just about learning words. It is about mastering the language, understanding the culture, and developing the confidence to communicate in real-world situations. If you are serious about learning Spanish, this is the program built for you.
How do you leverage technology?
We use technology to enhance learning, not replace it. At Spanish Power, our goal is not to overwhelm you with features, but to support a structured and human-centered approach to mastering Spanish. Our platform is built around the González Method, which prioritizes long-term retention, cultural intelligence, and real communication skills.
Technology plays a key role in delivering that experience. Our system includes intelligent virtual tutors, adaptive practice tools, automated progress tracking, and mobile-friendly design so you can learn anywhere, anytime. We also integrate conversation labs, guided exercises, and real-time feedback to help you develop fluency at your own pace.
What makes us different is that we don’t rely on AI to guess your next move. We’ve designed a learning path that leads you there intentionally. And while tech keeps everything efficient and accessible, human support remains at the heart of your experience. You’re not just clicking through lessons. You’re building real skills with real guidance, powered by a thoughtful use of technology.
Will I learn cultural skills along with the language?
Absolutely. At Bilingual America, we believe language without culture is incomplete. That’s why each of the 48 core lessons in our program begins with a cultural insight designed to help you genuinely understand and connect with Latino people in an honest and meaningful way.
These aren’t surface-level tips. They’re real-world insights drawn from decades of helping individuals and organizations build lasting cross-cultural relationships. Culture isn’t an add-on in our program. It is built into the foundation. True communication requires more than just vocabulary. It requires cultural intelligence, empathy, and the ability to engage beyond words. Language is the conduit that opens the door to the richness of the culture itself.
By the time you complete the program, you won’t just speak Spanish. You’ll know how to build trust, create meaningful connection, and relate with confidence and integrity across cultural lines.
Will you help me use my Spanish in real life after I learn?
Absolutely. One of our core goals is to help you use Spanish meaningfully in both personal and professional settings. We don’t just teach the language. We help you build real connection. Whether you’re using Spanish in your career, your travels, or your community, we’ll guide you on how to apply it with purpose and confidence.
Our program includes cultural training that helps you engage respectfully and effectively with Latino people and contexts. Beyond that, a vital part of our mission is to connect people from both cultures in ways that create societal positivity and prosperity. And when you’re ready, we may even connect you with leaders in our extended and significant network who align with your personal or professional goals. This is one of the many unique benefits of learning with Bilingual America.
Can I purchase more tutoring than what’s included in my plan?
Absolutely. You’re free to upgrade or downgrade your tutoring plan at any time. Most learners find that their current tier—especially when paired with the virtual tutoring program—provides everything they need to succeed.
That said, if you’d like more than what’s included in your current package, just let us know. For example, if you start with the Virtual Plus 4 plan and want additional sessions, we can easily provide a quote. While we don’t typically advertise plans with more than eight sessions per month, they are available for students in highly intensive or accelerated learning paths.
What is the role of my Success Coach?
Your Success Coach is assigned to support your progress throughout the program and ensure a smooth, successful learning experience. They monitor your course activity, track your results, and assist with any administrative or system-related needs you may have.
It’s important to note that your Success Coach is not the same as your tutor. While some of our Success Coaches are also qualified tutors, no student is ever assigned the same person in both roles. This intentional separation provides multiple perspectives on your development and helps us maintain a higher standard of instructional quality.
Every student in our program is assigned a dedicated Success Coach, regardless of the service tier they choose. We believe this level of support is essential to achieving real results.
How much virtual tutoring is included with my course?
Spanish Power includes 6,000 highly structured and material-specific virtual tutoring exercises. This is a total of 1,500 targeted virtual tutoring practice exercises per level.
Each level of the course contains 12 lessons, and for every lesson, you will gain access to six targeted virtual tutoring sessions. Each session includes 10 lesson-specific exercises, giving you 60 exercises per lesson. These sessions are carefully placed to reinforce what you are learning at exactly the right point in the process. This is more than enough to build true fluency and long-term mastery.
After each virtual tutoring session, you will receive a pronunciation grade along with specific feedback regarding your performance and areas for improvement. This is smart, real-time feedback designed to correct and guide, not just track.
You will be prompted with a pop-up reminder within the course when it is the ideal time to take your virtual tutoring. This eliminates guesswork and randomness, which are common in other AI-driven approaches. If you cannot complete the session at the suggested time, you will not lose it. It remains available for you to return to later.
When you reach the Intermediate Level, you will gain access to 500 virtual conversations with your virtual tutors. You can use these at any time during the remainder of the course. After each conversation session, you will receive a detailed report on your performance, a pronunciation grade, and the ability to download the audio and conversation transcript to your local computer for review.
Some apps promote “unlimited” AI use, but that is not strategic and is entirely student-driven. We take a different approach. We understand that you are depending on us to guide you through the learning process, and we believe it is in your best interest to let us do exactly that.
Once you complete the full Spanish Power course experience, you will have the option to subscribe separately for continued virtual tutoring practice and conversation. During the course, we guide you every step of the way with the right amount of structured support to help you build real and lasting fluency.
